Spartan Lacrosse Holds off WMU

The MSU men’s lacrosse team defeated the WMU Broncos 13-9, at Ralph Young Field Wednesday night.

The win moves MSU to 8-2 overall, and 4-0 in CCLA play.

The teams traded goals for the first half, with the Broncos holding a 4-3 lead late into the second quarter.

The Spartans scored three quick goals in the waning minutes of the first half to take a 6-4 advantage into halftime. Junior attackman Mac Ensley recorded two quick goals to the end the half, converting two WMU turnovers into a lead.

The Broncos scored about four minutes into the third quarter to come within one, then MSU took over.

The Spartans ripped off seven unanswered goals in the third quarter, stretching their lead to 13-5. Junior All-American midfielder and faceoff specialist Joe Mikkelsen capped the run with an unassisted score, after winning the faceoff and taking the ball to the goal alone.

The fourth quarter belonged to WMU, who rallied to come within four. However, the Broncos could not overcome the damage done in the third quarter.

Ensley led the Spartans in points with six on four goals and two assists. Sophomore attackman Danny Meyers had two goals and two assists. Senior attackman Mitch Hall added three goals.
