Season-High Points for Hines against Purdue

Junior Jasmine Hines’ change in mindset led to her scoring a season-high against the No. 19 Purdue Boilermakers. The Spartans beat Purdue 89-73.

Hines scored 16 points and collected six rebounds. Redshirt freshman Ariel Powers scored 19 points and grabbed 11 rebounds, leading MSU to victory.

“It gives me more confidence going into our next game,” Hines said.

Hines plans to be more consistent both offensively and defensively out on the court.

“I just need to stay consistent and it will help the team to stay consistent,” Hines said.

Hines has been focusing on conditioning and using her body effectively in the past. She had a setback earlier in the season and had to mentally prepare herself to be effective in the game.

“I was just worried about the wrong things,” Hines explained. “I needed to realize that I had to just go out there, have fun and play, and good things will happen.”

The Lady Spartans will travel to Champaign, Ill. to take on the University of Illinois Fighting Illini on Wednesday.  Tip-off is scheduled for 8:00 p.m.
