Tigers With No Need For Binoculars, Playoffs Well In Sight

The Detroit Tigers have clinched a spot in the 2014 postseason for a franchise record fourth consecutive year.

Detroit clinched a minimum of a wild card berth after the Toronto Blue Jays were able to hold off the Seattle Mariners 1-0 in 12 innings on Wednesday. However, the Tigers have bigger plans on their mind.

A Hard-Fought Battle Gives MSU Fifth Win

In a competitive match between Bowling Green and No. 16 Michigan State on Wednesday, the Spartans came out victorious, 1-0, on a late goal.

Why the NFL Needs to Care

Everyone from CBS’ James Brown to the New York Times to Cosmopolitan magazine have ran articles and voiced their opinion about the recent slew of abuse charges to hit the NFL.

Ray Rice’s now infamous TMZ video of him knocking out his wife in an elevator is not the only case the NFL has been hit with. Arizona Cardinals  running back Jonathan Dwyer was placed on the reserve/non-football illness list after being arrested on Sept. 17 for charges of aggravated assault.

Lions’ Defense Too Much For Packers

The Detroit Lions bounced back from their Week 2 loss with a 19-7 win at home over the rival Green Bay Packers.

Ford Field was rocking when Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers’ electrifying offense was held to an uncharacteristic 223 total yards. The Lions’ defense continued their streak of holding opponents to less than 80 rushing yards per game. Second-year running back sensation Eddie Lacy  topped out at 11 carries for 36 yards, and his counterpart James Starks finished with eight rushing attempts for 38 yards. Read More…

Who Will be the Next Big Ten Hockey School?

It is a question that has surrounded fans for the past few years: “Will the Big Ten hockey conference ever expand, and who will step up?”

Wisconsin head coach Mike Eaves re-ignited the conversation in an interview with the Journal Sentinel. In the interview, Eaves expressed his desire to see the six-team conference grow in the near future, and listed Illinois, Indiana and Northwestern as potential additions.

Fischer and Draper Lead Red Team to Alumni Victory

The Detroit Red Wings’ annual Alumni and Celebrity Game was a high-scoring, enjoyable time for fans alike.

The score of the game was a 12-10 final, giving the “Red Team”, the victory.

The 2014 Alumni and Celebrity Game hosted a slew of veterans, including players like Jiří Fischer, Kris Draper, Chris Chelios, Dallas Drake and Kirk Maltby.

New Faces for Spartans Help Finish Out Blowout Against EMU

Sixty-three players played in the first half. Seven freshmen defenders played at one time.

The No. 11 ranked Spartans bounced back after their a bye week following loss in Eugene with a 73-14 dominating performance against Eastern Michigan. Connor Cook, who only attempted six passes, ended up with 83 yards and two touchdowns.  He also had a rushing touchdown of his own. Cook sat out the majority of the second quarter and the entire second half while MSU maintained a comfortable lead. Read More…

Field Hockey Tops Ohio State, Gets First Conference Win

The No. 16 Michigan State Spartans field hockey team traveled down to Columbus, Ohio this weekend to take on Ohio State in their first taste of Big 10 competition this season. The Spartans topped the Ohio State University Buckeyes in overtime with a goal from senior forward Abby Barker to go 1-0 in conference play.

Ohio State struck first with a goal by freshman Maddy Humphrey off of a penalty corner. About nine minutes later, the Buckeyes made it 2-0 when senior Kaitlyn Wagner hit home a rebound past the Spartan goalkeeper, Sierra Patton. Read More…

Spartans Dominate Eagles, Win Convincingly

After an explosive offensive performance in the first half, Michigan State held on to their large lead, winning 73-14 against Eastern Michigan. The Spartan defense forced five turnovers while the offense ended up with 496 yards of total offense. Read More…
