Spartans Advance to Sweet Sixteen

EAST LANSING, Mich. – All season long, head coach Damon Rensing has emphasized unity and the toughness of his 27 players, and the Spartans showed that on Sunday against the University of Louisville.

On a cold day with high winds, and a field that players could hardly get a good footing on, the Spartans found themselves locked in a tight game with the Cardinals.

Spartans’ WILLiams

After pushing through a sluggish start, the Spartans defeated Rice 81-68 Saturday night The Spartans struggled in the first half after forward Annalise Pickrel was taken out of the game for picking up two early fouls. Shortly after Pickrel left the court,  center Madison Williams made an appearance after missing all but three games in her three years at Michigan State due to an ACL injury.

Opinion: Solving the Pistons’ Crisis

On Friday night, the Detroit Pistons (4-8) fell short at home to the Atlanta Hawks for the second time in three days. Despite a number of late runs by the Pistons, the Hawks held the lead for the majority of the game and pulled away in the end. The turning point in the game occurred under two minutes to go in the game.

Penalties Contribute to Another Loss

After a burst of energy provided by Gustav Nyquist on Thursday at Joe Louis Arena, the Detroit Red Wings were stumped yet again on home ice in their second confrontation with the Ottawa Senators. With a score of 4-2 on Saturday evening, the Sens scored two goals in both the first and the third period to seal the deal against the Wings for the second time. Read More…

Spartans Shutout by Broncos, Losing Continues

Michigan State welcomed the Broncos of Western Michigan to East Lansing Friday night for a home-at-home weekend series. Unfortunately, the Spartans were shutout by the Broncos and extended their losing streak to three games.

MSU will travel to Kalamazoo on Saturday in hopes to snap their losing streak.

Northwestern Preview with John Paschall

Michigan State is coming off a historic win against Nebraska last weekend.  Before that win, they were 0-7 against the Cornhuskers dating back to 1914. They were the only Big Ten team Michigan State had never beaten, and they can check them off the list now.

Not only did they beat Nebraska for the first time, but they also clinched a share of the Legends Division title. But their work isn’t over yet, as they travel to Evanston, Illinois to take on Northwestern tomorrow. Read More…

The Michigan State women’s cross country team is going to the NCAA National Championship this Saturday for the 15th year in a row. They will join men’s team runner Caleb Rhynard, who automatically qualified with a fourth place finish overall. The girls won a bid to the championships after placing third overall at the Great Lakes Regionals on Friday with a total of 73 points. Read More…

The Pistons finally returned home from their grueling West Coast road trip to face Carmelo Anthony and the struggling New York Knicks. Kentavious Caldwell-Pope found himself in the starting lineup due to the absence of Will Bynum and Chauncey Billups, and looked to make the most out of the opportunity. In 2002, the Detroit Red Wings set a team record that held for 12 years. That streak is not one of pride or power, but a streak that exemplifies poor play and a lack of productivity. Although the Wings have a seven game losing streak, this is something that players and coach Mike Babcock see as a positive thing, considering the last time this happened, they won Lord Stanley’s Cup.
