The Lions defeated the New York Giants 35-14 on the first Monday Night Football matchup of the 2014 NFL regular season.

Lady Spartans Extend Winning Streak to Six Games

After defeating the Western Michigan Broncos 3-2 in double overtime, Michigan State tied its third-longest undefeated streak to start a season in program history.

The Spartans longest winning streak was eight games, which they have done twice. Once in 1986 (8-1-0) under former head coach, Joe Baum, and then in 2008 (8-0-0) under current head coach, Tom Saxton.

Women Win Oregon’s Bill Dillinger Invite, Men Finish Second

The Michigan State cross country team started their season like they never had before, in Eugene, Ore.

Battling not only a nationally ranked team but also 90-degree temperatures, the Spartans found themselves up for the challenge.

The women took home first place in the five-team portion of the 6K event with top three individual finishers, while the men placed second behind Oregon in the 8K race.

Spartans Show Improvement, but Fall to Duke in Five Sets

Big Ten-ACC Challenge play continued for the No. 14 Spartans Saturday evening against No. 19 Duke.

The Spartans displayed more cohesive offensive play than in Friday’s three-set loss to No. 20 North Carolina, but fell to the Blue Devils 3-2 in five sets: 25-13, 22-25, 25-23, 23-25, 10-15.

No. 3 Oregon Defeats No. 7 MSU in Eugene

Connor Cook and the Spartan offense responded to an early deficit against the Oregon Ducks’ high-speed offense. But they were only able to score three points in the second half, and ultimately fell short, losing 46-27.

Marcus Mariota led the Ducks on their first scoring drive after a Cook interception, with running back Thomas Tyner scoring on a one-yard touchdown run.

Octopi Hockeytown – #18 – 9/6/14

Austin Goodman is back in East Lansing to host the 18th episode of Octopi Hockeytown. This episode of Octopi, Goodman will discuss the current defensive units that the Red Wings have aligned for the 2014-2015 season. Through the first 15 minutes, Goodman gets fiery and explains to listeners that the defense will be okay come October.

After a heated discussion on the defense, Goodman will once again update the listeners of Octopi on Daniel Alfredsson and whether or not he will remain a NHL player for his 19th consecutive season.

Lady Spartans in Control against IPFW

From kickoff until the final whistle, Michigan State was in the driver’s seat as they controlled the flow and tempo of the game against Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne.

The Spartan offense got going early when junior defender, Alex Gjonaj, delivered a ball from a free kick, 35 yards out, into the Mastodon 18-yard box, which found the foot of junior midfielder, Sarah Kovan, who volleyed the ball into the goal.

Cross Country Has Good Showing Oregon Bill Dillinger Meet

The Spartans competed at the ninth annual , Friday, Sept. 5 against a small batch of teams including: University of Oregon, University of Portland, Portland State and American University.

In the women’s 5K race, the Spartans came out on top, sweeping the top five with Rachele Schulist in first at 19:38 at a 5:16 mile pace, Leah O’Connor in second at 19:53 and 5:20 pace and Lindsay Clark in third at 20:11 and a 5:25 pace.
