Octopi Hockeytown – #3 – 3/4/14

Octopi Hockeytown is back for another episode. The 2014 Sochi Olympics came to a close with Canada winning the gold in men’s hockey for the second consecutive Olympic games, while the United States left Russia with no men’s ice hockey medals.

Austin Goodman, the host of Octopi Hockeytown, will discuss the Olympics, for what he promises will be the last time for at least the next four years. He will evaluate each medal-winning team’s performance and discuss what happened to the United States down the stretch.

Also, the Detroit Red Wings have returned to the ice post-Sochi with style and swagger. Johan Franzen and Todd Bertuzzi have not played for the team since before the Olympic break.

Two Red Wing veterans made a plea for their individual cases to stay on the Red Wings’ active roster. Franzen was named the NHL’s first star of the week with three goals and two assists while Bert got the scoring started in his Red Wings debut against Montreal.

Daniel Alfredsson made his last visit to the Canadian Tire Centre to face-off against the Ottawa Senators on Feb. 27. The Mule took it to the Senators, netting three goals before the Senators had a chance to score their first. Detroit won the game with a score of 6-1.

After reviewing the week, Austin discusses who will fill the void of the Wings’ injured captain, Henrik Zetterberg and where Bertuzzi and Franzen fit into the mix.

Finally, Austin discusses the biggest components to the upcoming week, where the Wings will play four of their last 22 games.
