Defense Carries Spartans to Halftime Lead over Nebraska

Despite three turnovers, No. 10 Michigan State leads No. 19 Nebraska, 17-0, at halftime.

Connor Cook threw an interception on Michigan State’s first drive to Nebraska defensive end, Randy Gregory. In the second quarter, running back Jeremy Langford lost a fumble and wide receiver MacGarrett Kings Jr. muffed a punt.

Michigan State’s defense was able to stop the Husker offense and prevent them from capitalizing on the turnovers, while coming up with two takeaways of their own. Cornerback Trae Waynes made the first play for the Spartan defense with an interception.

After forcing an MSU turnover, Nebraska drove the ball into the Spartan’s red zone only to fumble the ball, that was recovered and returned to the MSU 45-yard line by Shilique Calhoun.

Michigan State’s touchdowns came on two big plays — a 55-yard pass from Cook to wide receiver Tony Lippett and a 31-yard run by Langford.  Michael Geiger added a 28-yard field goal late in the second quarter.
