With the regular season coming to an end, the Lady Spartans are having a busy week. With three games this week the Spartans are off to a great start. Coming off of a great win at home against Minnesota, they headed to Evanston, Ill. to take on Northwestern.
In the Thursday night game, the Spartans took home a 75-44 victory over Northwestern. This was the Spartans last road game of the season. With this win, the Spartans are now 12-3 in the Big Ten. They are now tied with No. 17 Nebraska and No. 11 Penn State for first in the Big Ten, and they have only one game left to try and break the tie.

Michigan State guard Tori Jankoska earned Big Ten weekly awards for the first time on Tuesday. She was named Big Ten Freshman of the Week and was also among three players who were named to the Big Ten Player of the Week Honor Roll.
In the last two wins against Wisconsin (76-66) and Minnesota (75-61), Jankoska averaged 17.5 points, six assists and 2.5 steals. She has been very efficient as well, only turning the ball over three times in 77 minutes of play.

In a game that was truly a tale of two halves, the No. 20 Michigan Wolverines defeated No. 13 Michigan State 79-70 Sunday afternoon, to take full control of the top spot in the Big Ten.
The Spartans started off well, never trailing in the first half after Michigan led 4-2. MSU led by five in the closing seconds of the first half when Caris LeVert hit a three as time expired, to pull the Wolverines within two at the break.
Michigan State is on a role the past few games and it looks like that streak may continue.

On Sunday, Feb. 9th, the Detroit Pistons announced their dismissal of head coach Maurice Cheeks. In his absence, management chose to leave assistant coach John Loyer in charge of the team.
Loyer is in his third season with the Pistons. Before coming to the Motor City, Loyer spent two seasons with the New Jersey Nets as assistant coach under Lawrence Frank. In his first season as assistant coach in New Jersey, the Nets finished dead last in the league with a final record of 12-70. His second year was slightly more promising with a 12th place finish in the Eastern Conference.
