Depleted Spartans and Hoyas Battle at MSG

Two storied programs will matchup at Madison Square Garden on Saturday. The Michigan State Spartans (19-2, 8-1) and the Georgetown Hoyas (11-9, 3-6) will meet for an inter-conference battle.

Michigan State is coming off an overtime road win at Iowa. The Spartans are still undefeated away from the Breslin Center.

Indoor track and field season is well underway and the Spartans are taking on the University of Michigan Wolverines this weekend.

Spartans Fall to Rival Michigan in First Away Meet

The Michigan State gymnastics team is still in search of their first victory after Friday night’s effort against No. 4 Michigan. This was the team’s first away meet of the season. The final score of the meet was 196.800 – 193.900 and was a 1.15 increase from the Spartan’s previous meet.

The Spartans started out on the uneven bars for the first time this season. It turned out to be to MSU’s advantage as they posted a 48.675, which was their highest score of the season. Spartan Lisa Burt led the event with a season-high 9.8. Also, Ashley Noll posted her career high score of 9.750 and Michigan’s Joanna Sampson won the event with a 9.975.

Spartan Grapplers Prepare for Nittany Lions

Michigan State’s wrestling team (5-8 overall, 0-5 Big Ten) play host to the No. 1 ranked Penn State Nittany Lions (11-0, 5-0) on Friday.

The Spartans are coming off a home loss to No. 15 Illinois on Sunday and are looking to gain their first victory in the Big Ten.

Lady Spartans Slide past the Badgers

Five Spartans scored in double digits in their 71-67 win against Wisconsin on Thursday. They are now 6-2 in conference play and remain in second place in the Big Ten.

Guard Kiana Johnson, who missed the last game due to personal issues, came off of the bench and contributed 11 points, four assists and one block. In the last two games she played, she was 2-20 from the field. Tonight she was 4-8.

Spartans Take on Badgers

The Spartans (13-7, 5-2) will take on the Wisconsin Badgers (9-10, 2-5) tonight at 7 p.m. at the Breslin Center.

Michigan State have not had much trouble with the Badgers in recent seasons and tonight should not be any different. Last year, Jasmine Thomas and Kiana Johnson led the Spartans to a 54-48 victory.

Role Players Plugging the Hole for MSU

One slam of a hand, and MSU’s season could have been up in flames.

Spartans Bounce Back against Hawkeyes

During the television broadcast of the game on Tuesday, ESPN’s Mike Tirico mentioned that Russell Byrd, “used to be a good shooter.”

Byrd proved that he has still got the magic when he hit a three-pointer in overtime to seal a 71-69 victory for the Spartans.

Injured Spartans Take on Hawkeyes

The No. 7 Michigan State Spartans (18-2, 7-1) are on the road once again headed to Iowa City, Iowa, to take on the No. 15 Iowa Hawkeyes (16-4, 5-2) at the Carver-Hawkeye Arena.

Michigan State comes into this game after suffering a tough loss to Michigan, yet still being undefeated on the road.

In the Spartans last game against the No. 10 Michigan Wolverines, they fell short, 80-75.

Spartans Fall to Illini and Wolverines in Busy Weekend

Michigan State’s wrestling team came into this weekend with two matches versus two top squads.

On Friday, the Spartans ventured into the hostile territory of Ann Arbor, Mich. and faced off against the No. 12 Wolverines of the University of Michigan. The Spartans ended up losing the match by a score of 26-6, however they got two notable victories at 197 and 285 pounds.

It was a jam-packed weekend for the Michigan State wrestling team. In episode No. 2 of Pinned Down, host Nick Carver talks with Spartan heavyweight Mike McClure about his recent victory over former No. 1 ranked Adam Coon of Michigan

Chippewas No Match for the Spartans

Coming off a weekend sweep against the No. 6 Grand Valley State Lakers, the Division I Lady Spartans were looking to continue their winning ways against Central Michigan.

In Saturday’s contest at Munn Ice Arena, the Spartans dominated the play up and down the ice and defeated the Chippewas, 16-1, with all but two players gaining a point.

Lady Spartans Bounce Back

After losing two straight games, the Spartans found their way back to winning, defeating the Ohio State Buckeyes, 82-68. MSU has won their first four Big Ten road games for the second time in program history.

Freshman Tori Jankoska led MSU and also tied her season-high with 25 points. Fifteen of those points came from three-pointers. She only missed twice from behind the arc.

Men’s Basketball Gallery: No. 3 MSU vs. No. 21 Michigan

Entering Saturday night’s game, both No. 3 Michigan State and No. 21 Michigan were undefeated in conference play. Michigan’s Nik Stauskas lead the Wolverines to a 80-75 victory over the Spartans with 19 points. The Wolverines have won five of seven in the series after losing 18 of 21.

Michigan Downs Spartans

University of Michigan handed Michigan State its first loss in conference play Saturday night, defeating the Spartans 80-75.

Michigan State head coach Tom Izzo described himself as “crushed” after the loss, but seemed to be proud of his short-handed team.
