Louisville Hires Petrino, Narduzzi to Stay for Now

Michigan State enjoyed their most successful football season of all-time in 2013, finishing 13-1 after defeating Stanford (11-2) in the 100th Rose Bowl Game.

Much of that success was due in part to one of the most dominant defense in the nation. The Spartans ended the season allowing just over 13 points per game along with an average of 86 yards rushing allowed per game.

Spartans Hold off No. 3 Buckeyes, Win in Overtime, 72-68

“We survived.”

Tom Izzo had the best description of the Spartans’ performance in their 72-68 overtime win against No. 3 Ohio State Tuesday night.

Michigan State was once again short handed and plagued by injuries. The team was without Travis Trice due to illness. Adreian Payne nearly did not play because of a sprained foot, and Keith Appling battled leg cramps throughout most of the game.

Preview and Predictions for Tonight’s Top-Five Matchup

If the Michigan State Spartans want to make a claim for the Big Ten regular season title, a win tonight against the No. 3 Ohio State Buckeyes would go a long way.

MSU (13-1) is facing an extremely experienced and talented (15-0) Ohio State team that is off to their best start since the 2010-2011 season. Led by their captain, fifth-year senior Aaron Craft, the Buckeyes are probably the Spartans’ biggest threat at a Big Ten title. Read More…

Marquee Matchup: Aaron Craft vs. Keith Appling

When talking about Ohio State, the first player that comes to mind is most likely point guard Aaron Craft.

In his senior season with the Buckeyes, Craft is the leader of an undefeated and third-ranked team heading into only its second true road game of the season. He is not expected to put up 20 points a night, but defense is how he earns his keep.

Spartans Get Shutout in Hawkeye Country

Michigan State’s wrestling team, fresh off a victory at the Cradle Gear Invitational in Lock Haven, Pa. on December 29, went into Carver-Hawkeye Arena with some lofty expectations on Saturday. Unfortunately, the third-ranked Hawkeyes had other plans for the men of Sparta as Michigan State fell 41-0.

Spartans Start 2014 with Win over Hoosiers

Michigan State started 2014 on the right foot Saturday, defeating the Indiana Hoosiers 73-56 in Bloomington, Ind.

The Spartans received a career performance from Gary Harris, who continued his impressive play in Assembly Hall, scoring a career high 26 points. Keith Appling joined Harris in double figures, scoring all 14 of his points in the second half after early foul trouble. Read More…

Pepped Up at the Rose Bowl

PASADENA, Calif. – Even if it broke the bank, they traveled either way.

It was a rare occasion, for the Michigan State Spartan football team and its fans, to smell roses in Pasadena. The Spartans waited 26 years to make the Rose Bowl, and it was daunting.

But the spontaneity of the B1G Championship had no effect on Spartan faithful, as many students, alumni, and fans had their hearts set on the ‘grandaddy of them all’.

Dawson Stars in Return as Spartans Rally Past Nittany Lions

With Branden Dawson and Matt Costello returning to the lineup, MSU (12-0, 1-0) looked to steamroll the up-and-coming Nittany Lions (9-5, 0-1). Dawson missed the New Orleans game with an injured shin, and Costello missed the last four games with mono.

In his last press conference, Tom Izzo said his team would have their work cut out for them in Happy Valley.

The Spartans stumbled out of the gates, finding themselves in a 10-3 hole in the opening minutes of the game. Read More…

Green Roses

PASADENA, Calif. – Completion.

It was the one word Mark Dantonio said throughout the entire season and he was able to say it once more Wednesday night.

MSU defeated the Stanford Cardinal in a hard-fought nail-biter, 24-20, at the 100th annual Rose Bowl.

“The Rose Bowl to me is the pinnacle of what we do in the Big Ten Conference,” coach Dantonio said. Read More…

MSU Wrestling Puts Cradle Gear Invitational in…Cradle

Michigan State’s wrestling squad got a late Christmas present by winning the Cradle Gear Invitational by a 19-point margin. They surpsassed second-place Bloomsburg University, who had a scoring total of 86 points.

Three of MSU’s wrestlers fought their way to first place: 149-pounder Nick Trimble, 184-pounder John Rizqallah and heavyweight Mike McClure.

The Pact – #12 – 12/30/13

2013 has been a whirlwind of a year for Impact Sports.  As one of the many firsts this year, fall marked the inaugural semester of The Pact – the only sportstalk show on FM-radio in the mid-Michigan area.

Spartans Shut Out Wolverines in Final Game at Comerica Park

After coming up short against Michigan Tech in their first game on Friday afternoon, the Spartans were looking to bounce back against the Michigan Wolverines.

Michigan State and Michigan are scheduled to play each other four times this season, but got an early look at each other on Saturday.

Spartans Fall Short to Huskies in Shootout at GLI

This year’s Great Lakes Invitational was an experience for the ages as teams got to play outdoors at Comerica Park in Detroit. The GLI kick-started the winter festivities that will be taking place downtown through the end of December.

Michigan State and Michigan Tech needed extra time, and eventually a shootout, to determine who would advance to the Championship game.
