It was a rough weekend for Michigan State swimming and diving as the women’s team lost a close meet to Bowling Green Friday night in East Lansing 150-144, and both teams dropped the tri-meet at Eastern Michigan with Buffalo Saturday.
Former Michigan State men’s soccer defender Kevin Cope was selected 25th overall by the Philadelphia Union in the 2014 MLS SuperDraft on Thursday. The No. 4 Michigan State Spartans (16-1, 4-0) are on the road once again headed to Champaign, Ill. to take on the Fighting Illini (13-5, 2-3) at the State Farm Center this Saturday.
Michigan State goes into the game winning their past nine games and being undefeated on the road.
On what may be one of the more critical weekends of this Big Ten hockey season, Michigan State (6-10-3) will host Penn State (4-12-1) for two matchups on Friday, Dec. 17 and Saturday, Dec. 18 at Munn Ice Arena. Michigan State only needed 40 minutes to defeat the Northwestern University Wildcats Wednesday night by a tally of 54-40 and remain undefeated atop the Big Ten standings.
As they have for most of the year, the Spartans came out slow and only led Northwestern 26-22 heading into halftime. MSU shot 1-11 from three point range in the first half. They ended the game 2-16 from behind the arc.

Fino and the team have revamped the format of Impact Sports’ hard-hitting, flagship show. MSU basketball is taking center stage, as Fino debates with Lou and Faith. In the second half of the show, Fino moderates as Austin and Harry talk about the new playoff format for NCAA football.
In their second overtime contest in as many games, Michigan State was able to comeback from a double-digit deficit, defeating the University of Minnesota 87-75.
Kenny Kaminski came out on fire, hitting his first five three-pointers. He finished with 15 points. Despite Kaminski’s hot shooting, the Gophers went on a 12-2 run in the first half and led by as many as 10 points. MSU was able to narrow the deficit to five and trailed 41-36 at halftime. Read More…
West Lafayette, IND.–A talented Purdue Boilermaker swim and dive team was coming off a long plane trip from Hawaii and a meet yesterday against the Michigan Wolverines, but that did not stop them from earning two victories over Michigan State Saturday afternoon.
Despite coming up short at the Great Lakes Invitational over winter break, the Spartan hockey team has a lot of positives to build on, and it appears they are peaking at just the right time.
Big Ten play is about to kick into overdrive, and with four winnable games against Ohio State and Penn State coming up, the Spartans have an opportunity to become a tour-de-force for the rest of the season. Read More…

Michigan State enjoyed their most successful football season of all-time in 2013, finishing 13-1 after defeating Stanford (11-2) in the 100th Rose Bowl Game.
Much of that success was due in part to one of the most dominant defense in the nation. The Spartans ended the season allowing just over 13 points per game along with an average of 86 yards rushing allowed per game.
Tom Izzo had the best description of the Spartans’ performance in their 72-68 overtime win against No. 3 Ohio State Tuesday night.
Michigan State was once again short handed and plagued by injuries. The team was without Travis Trice due to illness. Adreian Payne nearly did not play because of a sprained foot, and Keith Appling battled leg cramps throughout most of the game.
If the Michigan State Spartans want to make a claim for the Big Ten regular season title, a win tonight against the No. 3 Ohio State Buckeyes would go a long way.
MSU (13-1) is facing an extremely experienced and talented (15-0) Ohio State team that is off to their best start since the 2010-2011 season. Led by their captain, fifth-year senior Aaron Craft, the Buckeyes are probably the Spartans’ biggest threat at a Big Ten title. Read More…
