Tatar Signs Three-Year Extension

Following a breakout season, Tomas Tatar, 23, signed a three-year, $8.25 million contract with the Detroit Red Wings, according to Helene St. James of the Detroit Free Press.

Tatar, a native of Ilava, Slovakia, was drafted in the second round of the 2009 NHL Entry Draft. After being drafted at No. 60 overall, Tatar spent his first three years playing for the Grand Rapids Griffins in the American Hockey League. Read More…

Wings Rejected in Free Agency, Still Optimism for next Season

The Detroit Red Wings were rejected at the start of free agency on July 1, 2014. The team went after four different players that ended up elsewhere for a variety of different reasons.

At the beginning of free agency, general manager Ken Holland understood that he needed to acquire a middle-tier winger along with a top-tier right-handed defender, but the Wings came out empty handed.

Alexey Marchenko is a 22-year-old, right-handed defenseman who has accumulated a plus-two rating and two penalty minutes against the Dallas Stars on Jan. 4, 2014.

Hasek, Modano 2014 Hall of Fame Class Inductees

For the seventh consecutive year, a former Detroit Red Wing has received a nomination to be inducted into the NHL Hall of Fame.

The class of 2014 Hall of Fame induction ceremony will be held at the Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto, Ontario in November. This year, the Red Wings are being represented by longtime Dallas Star who ended his career as a Red Wing, Mike Modano and Dominik Hasek, who won two Stanley Cups with Detroit.
