Red Wings Dominate Home-and-Home Against Maple Leafs

Following back to back losses, including a heartbreaker against Boston in a shootout, the Detroit Red Wings were looking to bounce back in a home-and-home matchup against the Toronto Maple Leafs. The series started out in Toronto on Friday night, and the teams had to quickly head back to Detroit and play the following night.

Game one saw an abundance of contribution from numerous Red Wings, particularly on the first line. Halfway through the first period, the captain, Henrik Zetterberg, found Johan Franzen for the first goal of the game. It was also his first of the season. Luke Glendening Understands, Willing to Fight for Playing Time

Luke Glendening, 25, understands that he needs to be “an all-around better player” to make it into the lineup going into the 2014 regular season.

Fischer and Draper Lead Red Team to Alumni Victory

The Detroit Red Wings’ annual Alumni and Celebrity Game was a high-scoring, enjoyable time for fans alike.

The score of the game was a 12-10 final, giving the “Red Team”, the victory.

The 2014 Alumni and Celebrity Game hosted a slew of veterans, including players like Jiří Fischer, Kris Draper, Chris Chelios, Dallas Drake and Kirk Maltby.

Breaking News: Danny DeKeyser Re-signs

The long anticipation of a contract extension for the 24-year old defenseman, Danny DeKeyser, is over.

Today, DeKeyser’s agent and Red Wings general manager, Ken Holland, came to an agreement on a two-year contract, with a salary-cap hit of $2.187 million annually.

Preparation for his second season will get under way this weekend at training camp, where the Red Wings will analyze their young team and morphed defense.

Austin Goodman is back in East Lansing to host the 18th episode of Octopi Hockeytown. This episode of Octopi, Goodman will discuss the current defensive units that the Red Wings have aligned for the 2014-2015 season. Through the first 15 minutes, Goodman gets fiery and explains to listeners that the defense will be okay come October.

After a heated discussion on the defense, Goodman will once again update the listeners of Octopi on Daniel Alfredsson and whether or not he will remain a NHL player for his 19th consecutive season.

Tatar Signs Three-Year Extension

Following a breakout season, Tomas Tatar, 23, signed a three-year, $8.25 million contract with the Detroit Red Wings, according to Helene St. James of the Detroit Free Press.

Tatar, a native of Ilava, Slovakia, was drafted in the second round of the 2009 NHL Entry Draft. After being drafted at No. 60 overall, Tatar spent his first three years playing for the Grand Rapids Griffins in the American Hockey League. Read More…
