Five Takeaways from the Green & White Game

Five+Takeaways+from+the+Green+%26amp%3B+White+Game

It’s that time of year again at Michigan State. Students are anxiously awaiting the end of the school year. It’s safe to store away winter jackets in East Lansing. And for one day, it’s football season again.

Connor Cook and the White team came out on top in the annual Green & White scrimmage, with a final score of 9-3. However, when it comes to Michigan State spring football, everybody wins.

  • The game was attended by 48,000 fans, which is a Michigan State record for a spring game. The sun was shining and it was in the mid-50s for the entire game.
  • 1,000 MSU students had a chance to run onto the field with the football team. There was also a student clinic prior to the game.
  • Everybody plays: Mark Dantonio used some of the tricks up his sleeve early. Offensive lineman Donovan Clark got the ball on a reverse-pass, and Jack Allen ran for the first and only touchdown of the game.  Defensive standouts Lawrence Thomas and Shilique Calhoun got some passes thrown their way as well.
  • No Injuries. With all the shenanigans happening on the field, nobody was hurt. Last year, the spring game featured full contact for all positions, and Damion Terry left the field with an injury early into the game. This year, there was nothing for Dantonio to worry about.
  • Defense: While most Michigan State fans would have liked to see more offense, it appears Michigan State’s power house defense is making a comeback. Both the Green and White teams made it difficult for their opposing offense to move the ball. The low final score says it all.

Michigan State opens their season in 133 days in Kalamazoo against Western Michigan. Their home opener will be a primetime game in a rematch with Oregon.
