The 2014 Detroit Pistons Media Day has come and gone. During the final day before practices begin, the Pistons players and coaches spent hours talking to the media and taking pictures.

The big headline out of Detroit’s media day was the news of newly signed Piston, Aaron Gray.

Gray experienced a “cardiac episode” about a month ago and will be forced to miss all of training camp. To replace Gray, Detroit signed Hasheem Thabeet, the 7-foot-3 center who played for the Oklahoma City Thunder in 2013.

New president of basketball operations and head coach, Stan Van Gundy, addressed the media about how he would use Andre Drummond, Josh Smith and Greg Monroe together.

“That’s clearly three of our best players, and yet when they all played together last year they clearly weren’t very effective,” Van Gundy said. “Can we make that lineup more effective? That’s one of the things we’ll try to find out. Are we better only playing two of them at a time? There’s certainly enough minutes to go around doing that.”

Greg Monroe answered some questions on his recent free agent process, but said this was going to be the only time he talked about it.

Tom Gores, the owner of the Pistons, said that he is noticing a big change of culture.

“I’m seeing things I haven’t seen in the past,” Gores said. “The tenacity is up, the sense of urgency is up, the togetherness with the team is up.”

The Pistons’ first preseason game is Oct. 7 against the Chicago Bulls. The game is set to tip-off at 7:30 p.m. and can be seen on NBA TV.

Detroit opens the regular season on Oct. 29 on the road against the Denver Nuggets.
