More Renovations Coming to Munn

As the Spartans prepare for their 40th season under the roof of Munn Ice Arena, the Michigan State Athletic Department announced further renovations to Munn that will take place over the next 12 months and will be the prelude to a total building renovation.

“Our goal is for Munn Ice Arena to represent a tribute to Michigan State’s rich hockey past and commitment to its future,” athletic director Mark Hollis said in an early morning press release.

Munn has been no stranger to renovation work over the past few years. During this past summer, the arena was re-fitted with a new HVAC system to improve the quality of ice, as well as new player-friendly dasher boards that meet NHL specifications. Prior to the start of the 2013-14 season, new LED lighting was installed in Munn.

The new upgrades, which will all be completed before the 2015-16 season, include:

Theatrical lighting

New high-definition video boards

Chairback seating

LED ribbon boards

New concourse decor

Dressing room decor

Michigan state hockey head coach Tom Anastos expressed his enthusiasm over the planned renovations saying, “It’s just going to turn, what to me is already a terrific environment and great hockey building, into an even better building.”

The Spartans have an all-time winning percentage of .700 while playing in Munn
