Volleyball Splits Weekend Trip in Oregon

Spartan volleyball traveled more than 2,000 miles west attempting to defeat two major Division-I volleyball programs in the state of Oregon – University of Oregon and Oregon State University.

They left the weekend .500.In the first series against No. 14 Oregon, the No. 25 Spartans fell to the Ducks in five sets. MSU won the first set off seven-straight points to close out a 25-22 win. The Ducks fired back and won the next three sets 3-1.

MSU had a .090 hitting percentage in the game, and Oregon stayed undefeated at 7-0 with the win. They also swept the Spartans bitter rival, the University of Michigan, to move to 8-0 the following night on Saturday.

The Spartans then traveled about 47 miles down the road on Saturday to take on the Oregon State Beavers in Corvalis, Ore., and came out victorious in four sets.

Sophomore Chloe Reinig led the Spartans up front with a career-high 20 kills. Senior Kori Moster led the team in digs with 27. Three of the four sets were determined by two points, and the first set featured 11 ties and three lead changes.

The West Coast trip prefaces Big Ten play back in East Lansing two weeks from now. MSU hosts the Spartan Invitational in one last tournament of non-conference games, competing against LIU-Brooklyn, Milwaukee, and Western Kentucky next weekend at Jenison Fieldhouse.
