Summer Camps End, Moster Instills Love of the Game

Though in the midst of preparations for the quickly approaching 2014 season, Spartan women’s volleyball spent some time giving back and instilling the love of the game in the hearts of young girls.

All-American libero Kori Moster is one of the Spartans working this year’s summer camps.

“Really just trying to make an impact on them as a volleyball player and make them have some fun,” Moster said.

Michigan State University has been holding various volleyball camps since July 12, starting with the volleyball kids camp and continuing on until today when camps end with a three day volleyball shootout team camp.

“We’ve kind of all been working different camps. Lately we have just had individual (sessions) so defenders are working mostly defense and passing,” Moster said.“It is also cool because we are also working camps that aren’t really tailored to our position and those are the ones that we get to work with the younger ones the most and that is so fun because they’re so open to new ideas and really want to take in everything. That’s been a fun experience for us.”

Top high school, club and college coaches, as well as, current and former Spartan players all lend a hand to instruct the summer camps.

“Kind of reminds you of what your thought processes was when you were that age, when you were that level, when you wanted to get to, say a Michigan State volleyball player,” Moster said. “It is cool to think of that as you put yourself in their shoes and how they approached it.”

Michigan State held a total of 11 camps, with some being up to three days long. Campers have the opportunity to spend the night in MSU dorms as apart of their camp experience.
