Wings Pick up 21-Year-Old Czech Forward

The Detroit Red Wings have began their push towards improvement, looking towards a more successful 2014-2015. Last season the team exited the playoffs in the first round against the Boston Bruins.

During this offseason, the Red Wings have already proved that they mean business when it comes to reshaping their franchise in order to win the Stanley Cup. Before resigning goaltender Jonas Gustavsson and buying out Jordin Tootoo, the Wings made their statement internationally, picking up a forward from Czech Republic’s top league.

Tomas Nosek is a from Pardubice, Czech Republic. Last week, Nosek signed a two-year NHL entry-level contract. Due to the club’s policy, the rest of the details remained undisclosed to the public, including what the young forward will be making fiscally.

The Wings picked up the 6-foot-2, 201-pound forward from HC Pardubice in the Czech ExtraLiga. Nosek just finished his third season with the club where he led the team with 19 goals and 25 assists in 52 games, including a club best plus-17 rating. Along with his regular season success, he appeared in 10 postseason games with the team, accumulating six points.

In 2012-2013, Nosek had 14 points combining five goals and nine assists in 50 regular season appearances. Along with his time with HC Pardubice, he played in the second-tier Czech league for HC Hradec Kralove where he collected four goals and one assist in five games.

He played six games for HC Pardubice’s under-20 team where he collected five goals and nine assists.

Since 2011-2012, Tomas has appeared in 129 games for the Czech Republic’s top league where he has a combined 24 goals and 38 assists, including a league championship in his rookie season.

Internationally, he has represented his country as the captain in the IIHF World Junior Championship in 2011-2012 where he had one assist in six games.
