Spartans Begin Weekend Series against Siena

After a tough loss in the exhibition matchup against the Lansing Lugnuts in the Crosstown Showdown, the Spartans look to bounce back against Siena College this weekend in a three game series at McLane Stadium.

This series will mark the first time ever that Michigan State and Siena take the field against each other. Siena plays out of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference and is 5-20 this season. Their pitching staff has a combined ERA of 7.79 and an opponent batting average of .348.

Jimmy Pickens enters the weekend flaunting a 13-game hitting streak. This is the team’s longest hit streak since Blaise Salter had a 12-game stretch that ended in early March.

The Spartans also currently lead the Big Ten in steals with 41, while Anthony Cheky is tied for first place in individual steals with 15.

Junior Mick VanVossen is penciled in to start for the Spartans on Saturday with the first pitch at 12:05 p.m., while Justin Alleman will follow in the second game of Saturday’s double header, which is set for approximately 3:30 p.m.
