Spartans Crush Hawkeyes

The Michigan State men’s tennis team completed the weekend Big Ten sweep after beating Iowa on Sunday afternoon, 5-2.

The Spartans (8-10, 2-3) are on a two-game win streak, both of which came against ranked teams (No. 71 Iowa and No. 58 Nebraska).

Worth noting, was that this was the second straight game the Spartans played without senior co-captain Aaron Pfister.

Michigan State took the doubles point, courtesy of wins by the doubles teams of Drew Lied/John Patrick Mullane and Gijs Linders/Harry Jadun.

With the win, the doubles team of Lied/Mullane moved to 9-8 on the season.

The Spartans won four of the six singles matches, while Iowa’s two wins came against Linders and Mac Roy.

Lied, Mullane, Brett Forman, and Jadun won their singles matches. Mullane remains undefeated in singles competition during conference play.

Michigan State will have a couple of days off before traveling to Champaign, Ill. to take on No. 10 Illinois (14-6, 4-1).

Friday’s match against the Illini is the beginning of a crucial four game road trip for the streaking Spartans.
