Pistons Weekly Recap: February 5-10

Wednesday night, the Detroit Pistons finished their two-game Florida road trip against the Orlando Magic.

The Magic had no trouble scoring against the Pistons’ defense, scoring more than 30 points in the second and third quarters. It was another lackluster performance from the Pistons as they lost 112-98.

Josh Smith recorded a double-double, scoring 25 points and grabbing 12 rebounds. For the Magic, rookie Victor Oladipo came off the bench to score 20 points.

An interesting point in the game came in the second quarter when Will Bynum and head coach Maurice Cheeks got into a verbal confrontation. Bynum was immediately pulled from the game and failed to check back in for the rest of the contest.

“That was my choice, but it was in the heat of the game,” Cheeks said after the game to nba.com.

Friday night, the Pistons came back to Auburn Hills to host the Brooklyn Nets. The Pistons scored 67 points in the first half and looked dominant.

Brandon Jennings had a great game in the 111-95 Detroit victory, scoring 26 points, grabbing 10 rebounds and dishing out nine assists.

Saturday night, the Pistons hosted the Denver Nuggets. Detroit produced one of their best offensive games of the season, outscoring Denver 126-109.

Jennings had another spectacular game scoring 35 points and tallying 12 assists. Smith also had a nice game for Detroit, scoring 30 points, grabbing 10 rebounds and dishing out eight assists.

With the victory, Detroit moved to 21-29 on the season and the proud owners of a two-game winning streak.

Sunday afternoon the Pistons made national headlines for firing their first-year head coach after he failed to live up to management’s expectations.

John Loyer, a long time Pistons assistant coach, was named as the interim head coach and will remain in charge until the end of the season.

In Loyer’s first game as head man, the Pistons played the injury plagued San Antonio Spurs. Detroit seemed to be extra motivated in the game and had one of their best all-around performances of the year.

The Pistons had six players score 10 or more points and had two additional players score eight or more. It was the true definition of a team victory, as the Pistons won 109-100.

Detroit hosts the Cleveland Cavaliers Wednesday night in their last game before the All-Star break. The game tips off at 7:30 p.m. and can be seen on Fox Sports Detroit.
