Freshman Agee Shows Promise

Freshmen of on the Michigan State Women’s Basketball team have been showing their talent in the past two season games. Redshirted freshman Branndais Agee is no exception.

The Spartans entered following a great win last week against Ferris State. And tonight they did it again, beating Grand Valley 91-47. The game started off slow for the Spartans, but they picked it up and came out on top.Last week, in the first exhibition game, Spartan’s head coach Suzy Merchant said she wanted to play her freshman and allow them to get experience and time on the court.  Tonight she did just that.

Branndais Agee, a redshirt freshman, missed most of the season last year after tearing her right Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL). Agee also suffered from a stress fracture in her left foot in the preseason and tonight was her second time playing since the injuries.

“These are the first two games coming back off my injury so of course… I’m going to be off a little bit,” Agee said after the game

Agee was not a top scorer, but she did make her presence known on the court. Despite some foul trouble, she said she had a decent game. Agee played a total of 15 minutes, shooting 3-7 from the field, including 1-2 free throws and five total rebounds.

“Work hard, crash the boards, because I’m a good rebounder,” Agee said on her goals for this season.

Coach Merchant agreed that she is a good rebounder. She added that she felt bad that Agee got into early foul trouble and she really wanted to save her for the second half of the game.

“I like what she brings…she is an extremely competitive person” Merchant said after the game.
