Lions Fall Short 27-24 to Bengals

A last-second field goal by Cincinnati Bengals’ Mike Nugent sealed the deal for the Bengals, as they stunned the Lions at Ford Field Sunday.

Lions Wide Receiver Calvin “Megatron” Johnson came through with the play of the game, with an incredible catch in triple coverage to tie the game at 24 in the fourth quarter. Johnson also had an impressive 27-yard touchdown in the 3rd quarter, but, in the end, his stand-out performance was not enough for the Lions to come out on top. Read More…

Lady Spartans Ready for War

After much excitement for Midnight Madness, the Spartan women’s basketball team came out eager and ready for the new season. And the ladies put Spartan fans in a good mood.

Shocking Izzo Entrance at Midnight Madness

Music, flames, and fans filled the Breslin Center on Friday, as the MSU men’s and women’s basketball teams symbolically kicked off their season with the annual Midnight Madness.

“The atmosphere of Midnight Madness is just really fun. Everyone is really excited for the all players to be introduced,” said Jessica Baarck, an MSU sophomore waiting in line with her friends. “When Izzo and Suzy Merchant talk, it’s just really exciting and everyone always has a good time.” Read More…

Lady Spartans Fall Short to Hoosiers

EAST LANSING, Mich. – On a cold and sunny day at DeMartin Stadium, the Lady Spartans fought valiantly, but fell to the Lady Hoosiers 3-2 in overtime.

It was a tough loss for the Spartans, as Indiana possessed the ball for the majority of the game in the Spartans’ half of the field.

Women’s Soccer Parallels Men in Win

EAST LANSING, Mich. – Women’s soccer scored their fastest goal of the season Friday, after the men’s team broke the same record on Wednesday afternoon.

Alumni Meet a Tradition for Swim and Dive Program

The 58th annual alumni meet had a large showing on October 12 at McCaffree Pool, as former swimmers and divers reunited to compete against the current varsity roster.

Seven decades of swimmers represented the alumni – from the class of 1957 (the last to win a Big Ten title), to 2013 graduates.

Head Coach Matt Gianiodis looks forward to this meet every year; it means a lot to him for people to come back and support the program. Read More…

Bump, Set, Spike – #3 – 10/18/13

The Spartans are off to their best start since 1995 with a 17-1 record. They are ranked No. 5 in the country and the top dog of the Big Ten conference as they look ahead to travel to Minneapolis and Madison.

Spartans Score Fast in Oakland Victory

EAST LANSING, Mich. – It took only 13 seconds for the Spartan offense to score one of the fastest goals in men’s soccer history on Wednesday afternoon, leading Michigan State to a 3-0 victory over the visiting Oakland University Golden Grizzlies.

Thirteen seconds into the game, sophomore midfielder Jay Chapman tapped in a Tim Kreutz cross from a few yards out to give the Spartans a very early lead. Read More…
