Spartans Defeat Bulldogs

Freshman Tori Jankoska led the Spartans to victory on Wednesday, in the opening exhibition game against Ferris State 100-54 win.

The Spartans started off aggressively with back-to-back scoring in the first half. Senior Annalise Pickrel was open for multiple 3-pointers, scoring a total of 18 points. Klarissa Bell scored 10 points and Kiana Johnson added 10 as well, and the duo penetrated the defense for layups. MSU ended the first half with a 54-23 lead.

Senior Sarah Deshone led the Ferris State Bulldogs with a total of 18 points and three rebounds.

Freshman Tori Janskoska scored 27 points and freshman Aerial Powers scored 13 points in the Spartans’ win.

“I like that we had 19 assists and we got to the free throw line 25 times,” said Merchant. “I thought they were open and we had a balanced attack.”

“Our transition defense was brutal,” added Merchant.

The team plans to keep its defense consistently strong.
