Injuries Give Bynum Time to Show Value

Two huge blows hit the Detroit Pistons’ revamped roster this past week.

The injury bug hit the Pistons on Thursday, Oct. 10 when Rodney Stuckey broke his right thumb in his vehicle’s right door.

Early Tuesday morning, the Pistons received the news that newly acquired star point guard Brandon Jennings would be out several weeks with a broken jaw and impacted wisdom tooth. What will this mean for new Pistons Head Coach Maurice Cheeks and his new squad?

Seasoned veteran Will Bynum has filled in for the two quite nicely, averaging 28 points, four rebounds and six assists in the Pistons’ first three preseason games. Bynum has the opportunity to flourish with this new opportunity, but these numbers are not sustainable for him in the long run.

Fortunately for the Pistons, these injuries came at a time where the results of games don’t count against their records.  However, with all the moves the team made this offseason, the ability for everyone on the team to practice and play together would do wonders for their chemistry going forward.

The regular season begins Oct. 30 against the Washington Wizards, where it is expected that both Stuckey and Jennings will still be sidelined.
