Look Mexico – Not On My Watch

Florida’s Look Mexico are the best band you’ve never heard of. After a series of lineup changes, they began putting out music in 2006. With elements of math rock, post rock, and alternative, Look Mexico provide a new and refreshing take on music with each song. Chaotic yet controlled drums carry the song through sporadic, off-kilter guitar lines and bright, crisp vocals. Though their style has changed over the years, each album and EP they put out offers something new. Plus, all their song titles are Vin Diesel quotes, so there’s that. Check out the track “Not On My Watch” off their 2006 release This Is Animal Music below. Read More…

MSU Today 4/19/13

We celebrate Earth Day by focusing on Kirk Heinze’s Greening of the Great Lakes conversations.  Kirk chats with Rolling Stones keyboard player and conservationist Chuck Leavell, agriculture advocate and MSU Trustee Dianne Byrum, and Chasing Ice director Jeff Orlowski.  Then we hear about one of the planet’s largest Earth Day events, the MI Earth Day Fest, coming to downtown Rochester Michigan April 26-28. Rare Monk – Death By Proxy

Rare Monk are a melting pot of indie rock. Combining all different types of rock including, but not limited to soul, garage, indie, folk, and electronic. Like a broken down, raw version of Atlas Genius, the Portland-based five-piece have only been in the scene for a couple years. Often getting into fits of experimental, psychedelic rage, Rare Monk could be described as a mix between Surfer Blood and The Killers. Check out the song “Death By Proxy” off their 2013 album Sleep/Attack below. Read More…
