Grouper is Liz Harris, Portland, Oregon-based multi-instrumentalist and experimental folk artist with a penchant for echoes and ambience. The big, roomy, nearly atmospheric brand of folk is reminiscent of newer Bon Iver and Deerhunter. With eight albums in as many years, Liz Harris is one of the most consistent artists out right now. Plus, with widely recognized support from acts such as Animal Collective and Xiu Xiu, it’s going to be hard not to garner some attention. A general store opened in Old Town, Lansing in early May, and will have its grand opening on Saturday, June 15. Impact’s Abbie Newton traveled to Old Town General Store to talk to owner Rhea Van Atta about her idea to bring Michigan-made, organic, and natural products to the area.
