So a couple weeks ago, Manchester Orchestra played in Grand Rapids with Kevin Devine and Balance and Composure. I was very familiar with Manchester’s album Mean Everything to Nothing, and just about that. Then I heard them perform Penascola from the album Simple Math and I can’t stop listening to the rest of their discography including their new album Cope which has split many of their fans. I will say I’m a huge fan of the opening tracks on Cope, but haven’t it hasn’t completely won me over yet, will update when I have confirmation.

So I’ve been on a bit of a BADBADNOTGOOD kick lately, going through a bunch of songs they’ve produced with other groups like Tyler, The Creator and an awesome rap song featuring Ghostface Killah and Danny Brown. Their newest album, BBNG2, has been on steady rotation for most of this weekAssistant Programming Director Jacob Richards

Swans and Ben Frost all the way. Swans came out with “To Be Kind” earlier this month and it is a behemoth of an experimental/post-rock/noise rock album. My mind hasn’t been blow that hard listening to an album since the first time I sat down with The Money Store or The Knife’s Shaking Habitual from last year. As for Ben Frost, if you’re into experimental electronic music with ambient tinged textures and a large emphasis on mood, definitely check this dude out, the new album is called “A U R O R A”. Plus he’s from Iceland so you can say you know more Icelandic musicians than just Björk, Of Monsters and Men, and Sigur Rós.

This week my speakers have been saturated with Sylvan Esso. I. Can’t. Stop. Their electro-pop sound seems to weirdly fit perfectly with all situations I find myself in lately, like relaxing after work or letting my on-the-verge-of-vampire pale skin catch some summer sun. I have listened to “H.S.K.T” and “Coffee” more times than I’d like to admit to which are on their latest self-titled album released this past March. The duo will be appearing at NxNE in Toronto, Canada June 19…which is pretty cool.

Earlier this week I got a package in the mail from In The Red Records with a ton of CD’s that I requested and I’ve been listening to them all constantly. I’m trying to figure out which songs I want to add to Impact Alternative which goes from 12AM-6AM every night. I got CD’s from bands like The Hunches, UV Race, Lamps, and pretty much all of Thee Oh Sees discography. If you’re into garage/psych/rock all of those bands rule pretty hard.
