If you’re looking for a catchy summertime jam, you can always count on Tthe Beach Boys to deliver. The Beach Boys were formed in 1961 and have had a multitude of members but are mostly known for the original lineup including the three Wilson brothers Brian, Dennis, and Carl; their cousin Mike Love; and their friend Al Jardine. The group is recognized for their music that reflects California surfing culture and beach-going in general. The Beach Boys are one of the most critically acclaimed, commercially successful and widely influential acts of all time.

“Don’t Go Near the Water” trickles in with a rippling guitar and a dissonant piano that is uncharacteristic of the poppy Beach Boys you thought you knew. As the song progresses, the pace picks up and the instrumentation becomes grander. Jardine and Love’s vocals become more passionate as they deliver an important message about protecting the Earth’s water supply. This track shows that on top of being the fun and lovable group that gives out good vibrations, the Beach Boys can also be serious and mellow when they need to be.
