Boards of Canada – Cold Earth

With their first album in eight years, Scotland’s electronic act Boards of Canada have had their listeners on quite the anticipation ride. After anonymously releasing a short clip of music and spread rumors that it might be theirs. With this clip came a six-digit code, though its purpose was unknown. Over the following few months, more codes were released through outlets such as BBC, Adult Swim, and NPR. Their website wouldn’t allow access to anyone without a password, which was also unavailable. Once the user entered all six codes, it revealed a video announcing their new album. So after all that work, is it really worth it? Short answer: yes. My Latest Novel – Sneaker Sister Sneaker Soul

From the outskirts of Glasgow, Scotland come My Latest Novel, a four-piece hell-bent on tearing down the walls of folk and indie rock. With a melange of instruments in every song including violins, xylophones, and the use of samples, their music is constantly shifting from theme to theme. The band name seems incredibly fitting, as each song changes within itself, establishing a story line and vascillating moods as a good story does. Each album seems to be a new novel of sorts. With only two albums under their belt, My Lates Novel has tons of room to grow and can be expected to do so. Check out their song “Sneaker Sister Sneaker Soul” off their 2006 release Wolves below Read More…
