So a couple weeks ago, Manchester Orchestra played in Grand Rapids with Kevin Devine and Balance and Composure. I was very familiar with Manchester’s album Mean Everything to Nothing, and just about that. Then I heard them perform Penascola from the album Simple Math and I can’t stop listening to the rest of their discography including their new album Cope which has split many of their fans. I will say I’m a huge fan of the opening tracks on Cope, but haven’t it hasn’t completely won me over yet, will update when I have confirmation.

What happens when Andy Hull (of Manchester Orchestra), Jesse Lacey (of Brand New), and Kevin Devine get three acoustic guitars, sit down in a bar in Long Island, NY in front of under a hundred people, and play music with no real direction in mind? The answer is a lot of craziness, forgetting lyrics, making fun of each other, and, of course, artistry.
