Andy Hull, Jesse Lacey, and Kevin Devine – Jesus Christ

What happens when Andy Hull (of Manchester Orchestra), Jesse Lacey (of Brand New), and Kevin Devine get three acoustic guitars, sit down in a bar in Long Island, NY in front of under a hundred people, and play music with no real direction in mind? The answer is a lot of craziness, forgetting lyrics, making fun of each other, and, of course, artistry. Artistry exemplified by an impromptu folk cover of Brand New’s popular song “Jesus Christ.” Check out some footage of that song below. Read More…

Grouper – Vital

Grouper is Liz Harris, Portland, Oregon-based multi-instrumentalist and experimental folk artist with a penchant for echoes and ambience. The big, roomy, nearly atmospheric brand of folk is reminiscent of newer Bon Iver and Deerhunter. With eight albums in as many years, Liz Harris is one of the most consistent artists out right now. Plus, with widely recognized support from acts such as Animal Collective and Xiu Xiu, it’s going to be hard not to garner some attention. Be sure to check out the Grouper song “Vital” off her 2013 album The Man Who Died In His Boat below. Read More…

Pepper Rabbit – Lake House

Los Angeles’ Pepper Rabbit was a band that unfortunately never garnered much fame. This struggle culminated with the break-up of the two-piece in early 2012. Despite the break-up, their music has been getting increasingly popular and still deserves attention. The laid-back, psych-folk the band puts forth is enough to make any hippie weak at the knees. With a slow, yet driving and melancholy, yet hopeful sound, Pepper Rabbit is great whether your feeling depressed or optimistic. Check out the track “Lake House” off their album Red Velvet Snowball below. Read More…
