Izzo recognizes the power of student fan base at campout

Michigan State Basketball Coach Tom Izzo spent the weekend in a tent at Munn Field. He was surrounded by 3,100 other dedicated student fans who camped out in order to increase their chances of receiving Izzone tickets for the 2013-2014 basketball season. Impact’s Abbie Newton was at the event and shares some of Izzo’s famous words.

Today on Exposure, host Abbie Newton talks to two Michigan State professors about their research. First, Professor Scott Imberman in the Department of Economics speaks about the significance of the spillover effect of bilingual education. Then professor Bruno Basso from the Department of Geological Studies discusses the importance and usage of MSU’s first unmanned drone. Abbie takes a step outside the studio to talk to Tim Dempsey, East Lansing Planning & Community Development Director, about the city’s proposal to limit the number of seats served alcohol downtown after 12 a.m. Exposure welcomes Old Town Blues Fest Coordinator Ty Liggons to the studio to speak about the 9th year of the festival. Matchette & Frog, a band that will be featured at Blues Fest, also visited the studio. Lastly, we highlight MS80, a band of local high school students that will play at The Loft this weekend.

Tonight on Exposure, we hear from an MSU student from Syria about the turmoil in in his home country. We get a recap of the new Broad Art Museum exhibits and welcome back concert. Explore the economic effects of abusive partners. Talk with MSUFCU and COGS about their new partnership at Michigan State University. We close the evening with a performance by the Lansing based band, Desmond Jones. Their music will be playing throughout the show as well.

Broad Art Museum celebrates new Hope Gangloff exhibit with lecture, concert

The Eli and Edythe Broad Art Museum celebrated the first full week of school with a new art exhibit and an outdoor concert on Friday, Sept. 6. New York artist Hope Gangloff came to East Lansing for the opening of her contemporary art exhibit at the museum. Community members enjoyed conversations with Gangloff as Wayne Szalinski and The People’s Temple performed in the courtyard.

Tonight of the first Exposure of September, host Abbie Newton talks with Carl Borchgrevink, a Michigan State University professor, about a class that explores the history, tastes, and fancy of wines. Carlee Henderson of VIM Magazine also visits the studio to speak about Michigan State’s only fashion magazine on campus. Later on the show, we speak about Spartan Remix and Student Ticket Day at the Wharton Center.

Adam West talks Batman, Family Guy, childhood, and his bucket list

Adam West is a seasoned actor who became famous when he played Batman in the 1960’s television series. He has also lent his voice to many television shows and movies, such as Rugrats and The Simpson’s. Impact’s Abbie Newton and Gabriela Saldivia talk with the celebrity about his time as the Caped Crusader, his role as Mayor Adam West on Family Guy, and the items remaining on his bucket list.

Host Abbie Newton speaks with MSU professor Eric Scorsone, who is an advisor to Kevyn Orr, Detroit’s financial manager. Scorsone talks about what Detroit filing bankruptcy means for the city and the state of Michigan. Also, Michigan State history professor Peter Alegi speaks about Nelson Mandela and the history of South Africa. Also on Exposure, we catch up with former Spartan basketball player Mateen Cleaves about One Goal One Passion basketball camp. Lastly, we get a little slam poetry for the Spartan soul.

We wrap up Common Ground Music Festival with an audio diary from Impact’s Miguel Martinez. Music artist ZZ Ward talks about her music and her inspiration. Common Ground Marketing Director Jenna Meyer also joins Exposure. Later on the show, Host Abbie Newton speaks with Michigan State University professor Troy Hale about a weather balloon he launched in space. Lastly, MSU Salsa Club member Zac Tomczyk teaches us the steps behind the passionate Salsa dance.
