Little Comets – W-O-E

UK’s indie rock darlings Little Comets are back with their sophomore release Life Is Elsewhere. The boisterous vocals are alone enough to encourage a listen, not to mention the dance-filled instrumentation that moves the album along effortlessly. Chock full of blissful romps and moody jams a la Foals’ more recent work (see “Western Boy” or “Violence Out Tonight”), the album pulses along, establishing an emotional sequence not seen on most generic indie rock albums. Check out the track “W-O-E” off their sophomore album Life is Elsewhere below. Read More…

Fuck Buttons – The Red Wing

Bristol, England’s Fuck Buttons have finally released their first album in almost five years. The whacked out electronic duo create drone-y, experimental music along the lines of Tobacco. While the live show may not be something to gawk at (trust me, it’s not), it does make for some good, fun, and generally strange dance music. If they’re playing a festival you’re going to, check ‘em out. If not for the music then for the people watching. Check out their track “The Red Wing” off their new album Slow Focus below. Read More…

Forest Swords – The Weight of Gold

British music producer Matthew Barnes, better known as Forest Swords, makes the kind of downtempo electronic music that you can get lost in for hours. With ambient textures and creative rhythm sections, the music is a very cool mix of post rock and electronic. His choppy, computerized vocals soar and gently carry you from the beginning of the song to the end. Though typically slow to build, it is the peaks and troughs of his music that create such emotionality and expression. Check out the first single off of his debut full-length Engravings (out August 26th) below. Read More…

I Was A Cub Scout – Echoes

British two-piece I Was A Cub Scout were only around for two years and only made one album, but left with us some awesome music. Equal parts post rock and synth pop, the band make loveable tunes that may not get stuck in your head, but will easily make you swoon. Check out the track “Echoes” off their only album I Want You To Know That There Is Always Hope below. Read More…

The Heavy – What Makes A Good Man?

British rock outfit The Heavy provide a fresh take on alternative rock that really is a sound for sore ears. Mixing in elements of soul, folk, and even big band or swing music, their music spans the emotional spectrum. From ire to compassion and depression to optimism, The Heavy have a song for you. Check out the video for the song “What Makes A Good Man?” off their 2012 album The Glorious Dead below. Read More…

This Town Needs Guns – Left Aligned

Oxford, England’s This Town Needs Guns (now going by the moniker TTNG), are the perfect blend of math and indie rock. Though initially kind of a shock to the system, the pacing and instrumentation of the band’s include off-time and technical drums, extremely complicated and “noodle-y” guitar riffs, and soft-spoken, airy vocals. After a slew of lineup changes, the band have emerged as a three-piece (the reasons to be impressed should be piling up by now) and released the album 13.0.0.0.0 early this year. Check out the track “Left Aligned” off that album below. Read More…
