Send Away Stranger – Beats Me, Dog

Straight out of Tallahassee, Florida, Send Away Stranger makes some of the freshest and best emo/math rock around. With noodle-y guitar lines, ever-changing drums, and high-energy vocals, Send Away Stranger makes you want to jump up and kick some rear ends. Each instrument seems to be doing its own thing, independent of one another, and yet they combine to form a super-product, a perfect example of musical synergy. Check out their song “Beats Me, Dog”, off their 2011 EP Cool Wild Whatever below. Read More…

American Football – Never Meant

We owe much music to the Kinsella brothers. Front-runners of the midwest emo music scene, they are responsible for bands such as Cap’n Jazz, Joan of Arc, Owls, Make Believe, and many more. Possibly one of the more notorious bands to come out of the musically-inclined family is American Football. They were only together for three years from 1997 – 2000 and only released a self-titled EP and a self-titled LP, but were able to gain critical success after breaking up. With changing time signatures, blunt, melodramatic lyrics, and a general feeling of melancholy, these Chicago suburb natives were clearing a path in the music world without even knowing it. Check out American Football’s track “Never Meant” below. Read More…
