MGMT – Your Life Is A Lie

We’re all aware of the disappointment machine that is MGMT at this point. Be it new music or their live show, it seems like people are constantly upset with MGMT. If you’re one of these people, you’re not going to be happy. The Brooklyn, NY indie rock/pop duo released the second song from their upcoming self-titled album, and it seems to be quite lacking. This along with the other previously released track “Alien Days” might be a bit of a shock to those who are still obsessed with Oracular Spectacular and may even take some Congratulations fans by surprise. Check out the song “Your Life Is a Life” off the album MGMT out September 17th below. Read More…

The Skins – Killer

Have you heard of The Skins yet? They’re a prepubescent funk(ish) band taking the viral airwaves by storm and doing it quickly. The Brooklyn-based five-piece make fun, poppy, groove-based rock music that you may have to actively stop yourself from dancing to. The kicker? They’re in high school. Hell, the drummer isn’t even there yet. He’s still in middle school. While the shock value of young musicians may have declined over the past few years, there is still something to be said about a bunch of teens who clearly understand rock and funk and didn’t start a One Direction cover band. Check out a live take of their track “Killer” below. Read More…

San Fermin – Sonsick

When Brooklyn composer and score writer Ellis Ludwig-Leone, now known as San Fermin, graduated from the Yale College of Music, it took him six weeks to write and record an album. The album is (as Ludwig-Leone puts it) “a pastiche of post rock, chamber pop, and contemporary classical composition.” What resulted is an energetic and thoughtful amalgamation of top indie rock bands. Though a very creative and well-arranged album, it ends up sounding a lot like Dirty Projectors with some Lana Del Rey vibes thrown in. Either way, it’s a great listen. Check out the first single off the self-titled album (out September 17th) below.

A Great Big Pile of Leaves – Pet Mouse

Brooklyn’s A Great Big Pile of Leaves are back with their second full-length album You’re Always On My Mind. Though not as catchy as their previous efforts, the new album continues to showcase the band’s creative guitar work, intricate drum lines, and nostalgic lyrics that we love so much. AGBPOL continue with the “one high, one low” style of vocals, but seem to have perfected the art of when and for how long. If you like upbeat, happy rock songs with a little bit of style and originality to them, then AGBPOL is just for you. Check out the single “Pet Mouse” off their new album You’re Always On My Mind below, and then go check out their back catalog. Read More…
