Michigan Bands at SXSW 2014

The music festival at SXSW 2014 kicked off today in Austin, TX. Whether you’re fording the crowds in the Lone Star capital or the snow melt back home, here are the featured bands from the Mitten playing this week. Keep an eye and and ear on these artists and let’s show ’em some love!

Protomartyr
These rockers come out of Detroit and toe the line between punk and protopunk.

Black Milk
This Detroit MC and producer draws in influences from old school acts like De La Soul and A Tribe Called Quest and has worked with other local artists like J Dilla and Elzhi.

Jessica Hernandez & The Deltas
Gothic Pop/Dark Soul group Jessica Hernandez & The Deltas is from the heart of the Motor City and “not it’s leafy green suburbs,” according to their Facebook page. They’re the real deal.

Sinistarr
This drum and bass act keeps the tradition of Detroit electronic music alive and well.

Tyvek
From the dank and crowded basements of Detroit comes Tyvek, a classic hardcore band with the lo-fi, DIY sound that makes them the shining (but still grimy) paradigm of punk rock.

You’re probably wondering, “Wait, where are Joe Hertler & The Rainbow Seekers? You said on Friday that they would be at SXSW!” They are, but we’re holding off on showing the Director’s Cut of our Spartan Session with them just a little longer. Sorry to tease, but you can get your fix with the SXSW cut here.
