Martha Firestone Ford’s nationwide talent search for a new team president has ended today with the hiring of the Michigan homegrown product Rod Wood.

No, not the 11-time Pro Bowl cornerback from the Oakland Raiders.

Wood is a Michigan man, a graduate of the University of Michigan where he earned his Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration. Wood graduated from Goodrich High School just outside of Flint. He has been working for the Ford family as CEO of Ford Estates since 2007.

Wood issued a statement upon his hiring.

[su_quote]I am humbled and honored to accept this position,” Wood said.. “Mrs. Ford has made it clear that her goal, and the goal of the Ford Family, is to make the Detroit Lions a championship football team and organization. In my role as team President, I will do everything possible to provide our organization with all the means necessary to succeed on the football field and provide our fans and city with a championship organization both on and off the field.[/su_quote]

Wood’s long history of banking for the Wilmington Trust Company of Delaware and for Ford Estates shows that he is more than capable of managing the fiscal operations for the team. This is a big step in the right direction for the Ford Family and the Lions organization.

Mrs. Ford has not been shy about her next move, assuring the fans that they will use all NFL Advisory Board resources to assist in the search of a new general manager.

Until then, welcome new team president Rod Wood and the official end to the Matt Millen era of Detroit Lions football.
