Interview: Alex Kerns from Lemuria

Makenzie McNeill

A decade in the making, Lemuria is a band from Buffalo, NY that pumps out album after 7″ after album of emotionally charged indie-rock/pop music. Just over a year ago, Lemuria released their newest album, The Distance Is So Bigand followed it with nearly nonstop touring of the US, Asia, the UK and Australia. Their most recent US tour started off with The Menzingers, Cayetana and PUP. By the time the band got to Ferndale, Michigan, they were finishing out their run playing with Kind Of Like Spitting – a band form Portland, Oregon that happened to have taken Lemuria out on tour back in 2006.

I got to sit down with Lemuria’s drummer/vocalist, Alex Kerns, before their show at the Loving Touch in Ferndale on July 12th. Check the interview below to hear what Alex had to say about the formation of the band, how they stay connected to their fans and what we can look forward to seeing from Lemuria now that their tour is over.
