New Music Monday

New Music Monday is so awesome that Mondays feel like Fridays and every other day of the week feels like Saturday. That means you can take Tuesdays through Sundays off of work! Tell your boss that we said you could.

Top of the Town 2014

The Impact is excited to announce that we have made it to the Final Five of the 2014 Top of the Town awards. Woot Woot! But, this is not enough. We want to bring home the gold as Best Radio Station in the Greater Lansing Area so we can brag to our friends and, well, because we think the title would be quite fitting. But, we need your help!

The Top of the Town awards is an annual contest hosted by City Pulse, News 6 and Mlive. The contest gives the Greater Lansing community the opportunity to vote for the best of the best in categories like; coffee shop, tattoo parlor, bartender and, of course, radio station.

Voting ends Tuesday May 13 at midnight, so the time to vote is now. The Impact can be found under the category “Best Local Music,” and sub-category “Best Radio Station.” Remember, your ballot only counts if you vote in at least 15 sub-categories.

In case you need a little more inspiration…
Five reasons why you should vote for the Impact:

1. We play the best of the newest music out there.
2. We have it all from metal to EDM to MSU hockey to sex education.
3. We have a real live station mascot named Addison who frequents the station (she’s a dog).
4. We believe in supporting local music.
5. Hipsters.

Weekday Wrap Up

It doesn’t matter that school is out. Weekdays are still a bummer. Here is what we’ve been listening to at the station to help you escape the oppression of fluorescent lights and mundane cubicles.

Assistant Video Director Dakota Johnston
I’ve been listening to a lot of stuff lately, but the song that comes to my head most is Sweet’s Little Willy. Oh and I’m digging the new tUnE-yArDs album.

Dr. Dre – Still D.R.E.

You probably heard that Apple just bought rapper Dr. Dre’s Beats Electronics for $3.2 billion. If you haven’t…well…Apple bought Dr. Dre’s Beats Electronics for $3.2 billion. Today’s Jam of the Day is to remind everyone that, even though they say money changes people, the good doctor is Still D.R.E.

The Libertines – What Katie Did

In honor of their recently announced reunion, our Jam of the Day today comes from London lads The Libertines. Whether you already know this one or not, get ready to sing along with the catchy “shoop shoop shoop da lang da lang” hook.

Memorex Memories

Memorex Memories is a new segment where Impact staffers rediscover their own mix CDs and playlists from childhood, pre-teen, and teen years.

I like to think that my inner child is alive and kicking. I watch cartoons regularly. I read picture books about dinosaurs. I eat macaroni and cheese and chicken nuggets. Well, that last one is more of a financial thing at this point, but still, I take pride in how well I’ve preserved my sense of wonder and immaturity in the face of, you know, taxes and stuff. One thing has changed during my descent into this pre-death stage of life called adulthood, and that is my musical taste. In a little over a decade, I have gone from a clueless kid with a p2p service to working for a college radio station. Enough about me, though. You came here to take pleasure in a cringe-inducing assortment of music that a fourth grader thought was “wicked sick” ten years ago.

Let me give a little background to this mix CD. The year is 2003. George W had declared “Mission Accomplished” overseas, SARS was all the rage, and it took 3 days to download the latest Linkin Park single on Kazaa. Because all I ever really did was listen to my dad’s copy of AC/DC’s Back in Black, I used p2p for pop music, “rarities,” and sound bites from movies and TV shows. This is an explanation just as much as it is a warning.
