This week author Mark Binelli calls in to discuss his experiences growing up in Michigan and how they have contributed to his career. Nina Santucci, co-owner of Red Haven restaurant, elaborates on a VIP event held at her restaurant this Tuesday and later we listen to interviews featuring  Anthony Bourdain and Yvonne Caamal Canul.

City Pulse – 4/24/13

This week, both state representative Jeff Irwin and Jeff Hank of the Coalition for a Safer Lansing call in calls in to discuss the topic of decriminalizing the use of marijuana in Michigan. Later, Ben Duke of the 4th Culture Studios joins Berl in-studio and we listen to an interview with state representatives Andy Schor and Sam Singh.

City Pulse – 4/17/13

Andy fills in this week for Berl as Dr. James Trosko calls in to expand on a portion of his TEDMED presentation which he will be giving tomorrow, Kyle Melinn calls in, and Sam Inglot gives us an update on the ongoing Pole Barn controversy between NioWave and the Walnut neighborhood.

City Pulse – 4/10/13

This week we hear from top of the town winners Gretchen Whitmer, state senator, and the Soup Spoon Cafe, owned by Nick Gavriledes. We also listen to an interview with Roy Bourgeois concerning his advocacy of women in the Catholic church and later we listen to Ann Woiwode, Julie Powers, Scott Robbins, and Walt Sorg discuss a few environmental topics.

City Pulse – 4/3/13

This week, City Pulse’s own Larry Cosentino joins Berl in-studio to elaborate on the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) which was discussed in the Supreme Court last Wednesday. We also hear from Walnut Neighborhood resident, Dale Schrader, on developments  in the ongoing pole barn dispute. Later, Lansing Councilwoman Carol Wood discusses the 2014 fiscal budget.

City Pulse – 3/27/13

This week Bill Mathewson, general council member in the Michigan Municipal League calls in to elaborate on the Open Meetings Act, Berl speaks with Alice Brinkman, founder of the REACH Studio Art Center, who calls in to discuss the accessibility of art within the school system, and Gail Philbin talks about big agriculture and what it’s doing to our farmland. Later we hear former and current mayor, David Hollister and Virg Bernero, talk about the budget for the city of East Lansing.

City Pulse – 3/20/13

Kareemah El-Amin, executive director of the Food Bank of Michigan, calls in this as does Kyle Melinn who discusses the political future of Virg Bernero with Berl. We also listen to Andy’s interview with economist/author Jeremy Rifkin and another interview regarding cold cases in Lansing with Captain Daryl Green of the Lansing Police Department.

City Pulse – 3/13/13

This week Berl interviews Gretchen Cochran, president of the Downtown Neighborhood Association, and we also hear State Representative Mike Callton’s bill sponsorship pertaining to medical marijuana dispensaries in Michigan. Later, we listen to a discussion with Mary Elaine Kiener and Brian Jeffries concerning a controversial pole barn in the Walnut Neighborhood.

Spartan Sportswrap 3/11/13

Dan Krier from MSU Athletic Communications joins Alex to discuss the latest news on the MSU basketball team including Gary Harris being named Big Ten’s freshman of the year.  They also give end of the season player rankings, and discuss the Tom Crean outrage following their win against Michigan.  Alex has open lines to close the show, as he also gets into Detroit Lions free agency possibilities and a goon of the week.
