Currents | Tame Impala

Kevin Parker is back with his third, and long-awaited album, Currents.

The band dropped singles like “Let it Happen” and “Cause I’m a Man” earlier in the year to prepare us for the most authentic music Parker has ever created and released.

With the two singles receiving a great reception, the album debuted at No. 1 in Parker’s native land of Australia and is climbing the charts all over the world. The band is also currently on tour worldwide and headlining music festivals all year.[su_pullquote align=”right”]“With the two singles receiving a great reception, the album debuted at No. 1 in Parker’s native land of Australia…”[/su_pullquote]

In a recent July interview with Billboard, Parker said that he has “challenged” himself on this album and it isn’t as “cheesy” as an older version of himself would have made it.

Expressing the changes he has gone through as an artist and overall person, songs like “Past Life” and “Yes, I’m Changing” (as if the titles weren’t an obvious indication) are like the words from his diary being expelled into the universe.

Although Tame Impala’s music has become recognizable to the public at large, Currents certainly blends different genres and sounds from the band that fans, and hopefully new listeners, should appreciate.

[su_pullquote]“This album will be talked about for a while, as Parker has showed continuous growth as a musician.”[/su_pullquote]The track “Eventually” is a mix of alternative rock, hip-hop beats and psychedelic melodies. It’s like a perfect mix of Innerspeaker and Lonerism with a flare of its own.

But, tracks like “The Less I Know The Better” show that Parker can still call attention to his vocal abilities and vibe to a softer sound.

This album will be talked about for a while, as Parker has showed continuous growth as a musician. We can only hope that he will outdo himself if we are graced with another album in the future. Fingers crossed for some heavy self-competition.
