Offense continued to dominate, as the Michigan State women’s soccer team defeated the visiting Minnesota Gophers 3-0, on September 27 at DeMartin Stadium.

Michigan State’s offense was led by sophomore forward Allyson Krause, redshirt-sophomore defender Mary Kathryn Fiebernitz and junior midfielder Megan Marsack, who each tallied a goal.

Spartan goalkeeper Courtney Clem recorded her second shutout of the season and a career-high in saves with 12, in what head coach Tom Saxton said was one of Clem’s best games yet.

“I think it was the best game of her career and I told her that,” said Saxton. “They were dangerous and she was very sharp. I thought (Minnesota) took their chances well and Court stuffed them every time. That was nice to see.”

“We’ve been working on our offensive part of the game,” said Fiebernitz. “To carry that momentum over we have to just keep playing the formation that we want to play. We’re playing a 4-5-1 technically, but we’re trying to push our outside wingers up more so we produce more offense.”

Michigan State (7-1-2) looks to continue their momentum against No. 18 Wisconsin on September 30. Saxton spoke highly of the upcoming visit with the Badgers.

“Wisconsin, I think, is one of the three best teams in the Big Ten. So we have our work cut out for us, but it’s a lot easier going into it coming off this performance than it would be the other way around,” said Saxton.

The Spartan offense scored three goals in a game for the third time in their past four games. Michigan State’s 3-0 victory was the first time the Spartans scored three goals in a Big Ten game since September 25, 2011.
