LANSING—Remember the national championship that the Michigan State men’s basketball team won in 2000?
Mateen Cleaves was a centerpiece that season. And now he is contributing to the Lansing community in a different way.
Cleaves heads a basketball camp called One Goal One Passion—beginning on July 23 at the Summit Sports Complex. The camp teaches kids between the ages of 8-17 to work hard and set goals in life. With these motives in mind, kids become better basketball players, said Cleaves.
Other former Spartans helping at the camp include Andre Hudson, Charlie Bell, Draymond Green, Jason Richardson, Morris Peterson and Travis Walton.
Future camp dates include July 30-August 1 in Benton Harbor, Mich. and August 6-8 in Flint, Mich.
Impact Sports’ Abbie Newton talks about what Cleaves is giving back to the community.
