One Direction’s music video for their cover of Blondie’s “One Way or Another” and The Undertones “Teenage Kicks” is my guilty pleasure confession of the week.
In the secured privacy of my dorm last month, I hate watched it, then replayed it to dance around. Only once. Maybe twice. This is a judge free zone. So three times.
Sure, there’s the eye-roll inducing, boy band, cookie cutter dance moves, and cheeky humor meant to make the preteens squeal. However, they open the video informing audiences (with their heart melting British accents) that they produced a low key video to send the money they would have spent to the charity Comic Relief. Awww. This mash up is fresh and fun, and doesn’t butcher the originals. I’m still no Directioner (I did my research, that’s what their fans are called), yet something about those smooth harmonies while they make children giggle pulls at my feels.
