The Industry!

This story from Tiny Mix Tapes just showed up on the feed. And I love it.
But really, where is the music industry going? I hope Madonna can think of something soon…

Missing the Impact

April 30th, 2008 · 1 Comment

People the blog has been dead lately! I know there are plenty of good shows in Michigan this spring please share. I managed to see a girl-fronted rock band cover Radiohead’s “High & Dry” along with a ska band (singing in Korean and all) one after the other.

The Dear Hunter (and some other bands)

April 18th, 2008 · 2 Comments

So, on Tuesday (April 15th) I went and saw possibly one of the most amazing bands I’ve ever heard in my life, The Dear Hunter. They played over at Mac’s so I couldn’t resist going.

They played last with three openers, The Pretence, Proximo, and Sink With Me.

April 11th, 2008 · 1 Comment

Hey gang, little non music related post here, but one of interest to you I am sure. How do I know? Well I want to talk a bit about blogs, and well you are reading one right now, so there we go!

So I have this great job where I get breaks now and then and all of my lunch to sit in from of my computer; what do I do? I read lots and lots of geeky blogs. What better way to learn about new and interesting blogs then to ask you! The Impact kids and fans have always been hip to whats new, so I am going to share with you the blogs I read after the jump, and maybe you’ll take the time to leave some new ones in the comments? Cool.

Kings of Convenience in Korea

April 11th, 2008 · 2 Comments

A few weeks ago I passed a small music store and thought I saw a poster for the Kings of Convenience. I was confused, excited, and a little bit annoyed. Confused because not that many people know of these guys in the US, so who would know of them in Korea? Excited because I love this band and the only other people coming to play concerts in Korea right now seem to be Celine Dion and 50 Cent (careers been slow lately, anyone?). I was annoyed because tickets were anywhere from 55,000 - 88,000 Korean won. That is expensive.

The first show was to be today at the very campus on which I am studying and living. After class I headed to the concert hall and got talking with this one man. At first look he seemed like any other Korean man in a business suit, but I was lucky that he spoke English and turned out to be the organizer of the band’s Korean tour. As it turns out, Dr Joon-Young Lim used to teach at the Broad College at MSU (coincidence or what) and loves music more than anything in the whole world. Also, he is best friends with the guitarist of Pearl Jam.

Korean Cover Bands

March 30th, 2008 · No Comments

Last night I finally got to check out the “scene” here in Korea. My friend met a guy who said he was in a Red Hot Chili Peppers/90s rock cover band. Korean people singing Red Hot Chili Peppers, how could I not go? (Also, free drinks from 11pm-12am!)

Fitter, Happier, <--More--> Productive

March 19th, 2008 · No Comments

One of the problems that I’ve encountered when visiting the blog is the extremely long…. long… long… postings we’re seeing. It’s great to have such detailed posts on music and shows, in fact its the very crux of what we’d hoped the blog could be for ourselves and our fans. The pain is, sometimes you don’t want to scroll through 7 football fields worth of content to see what all the posts are about. It downright discourges you from doing so. The solution? [Read more →]

Atavan, Powerspace, Farewell, Lorene Drive, Just Surrender

March 17th, 2008 · No Comments

On Tuesday my friend and I headed off for Detroit (well, first we had to go pick up someone else who was pretty much out of the way) to go to the Magic Stick, which I cannot pronounce and end up saying Magic Sticks and get teased. We ended up over there at about 2 pm, doors didn’t open until 6:30 pm luckily they let us hang out there, so I helped out the bands that were there in getting their equipment through the doors. It’s pretty sad when you’re there before all of the bands are even there.

Once doors finally opened (and they kicked us out to stand outside for 10 minutes) we ran upstairs and to the stage. Something about being in the front and center makes me happy. [Read more →]
