EAST LANSING— MSU women’s basketball head coach Suzy Merchant welcomed in her first transfer of the 2021 offseason, as Purdue graduate transfer Tamara Farquhar recommitted to MSU.

Farquhar, who started 89 games over her time at Purdue and, adds a tremendous rebounding and veteran post presence to the Spartan frontcourt. In 2020-21, she averaged 6.5 points per game and 6.1 rebounds in 28 minutes of action while starting all 23 games for the Boilermakers.  Farquhar also appeared in 102 games for Purdue over her four-year career.

“We love the experience, athleticism, and skill set that Tamara brings to our program. Her ability to play multiple positions both on offense and defense is something that we were very excited to add to our roster. She is a tremendous rebounder and loves to play in open space especially in transition. We are thrilled to welcome Tamara and her family to the Spartan Nation,” Merchant said.

Farquhar’s best season came as a junior that saw her average 7.3 points a game and 7.5 rebounds through 15 games before suffering a season-ending injury against Rutgers on Jan 5. 2020.

As the latest newcomer, she joins a stout incoming class that includes five-star point guard Damiya “Deedee” Hagemann. The Spartans currently have two players in the transfer portal in point guard Janai Crooms and freshman forward Kendall Bostic.
