EAST LANSING— On Friday, Michigan State announced testing results for this week’s round of PCR testing amongst the student-athlete community.

Overall, Michigan State conducted 1,431 COVID-19 PCR tests from Feb. 5-11 on student-athletes and staff members. In total, 1,044 tests were conducted on student-athletes, with six positive results. There were also 387 tests administered to staff members, with no positive results.

Six athletes testing positive is an increase from last week, as only two athletes tested positive.  However, there was a decrease in positive tests within the staff members, as there were no positive tests, a difference from last week when five staff members tested positive.

Testing results cover PCR tests across all sports. In addition, student-athletes and staff for men’s and women’s basketball, men’s and women’s soccer, hockey, volleyball and wrestling are currently taking part in the Big Ten’s daily antigen testing.

Men’s and women’s swimming and diving, men’s and women’s indoor track, men’s and women’s tennis, men’s and women’s golf and gymnastics are antigen testing per Big Ten designated testing schedules each week. Individuals whose antigen test returns a presumptive positive result are then required to take a PCR test and are included in the PCR testing results data.

Due to Big Ten rules, the players who tested positive for COVID-19 will be required to isolate themselves from their respective teams for 17 days before they can return to practice or game action. In addition to isolation, they will undergo further testing by a medical staff member, as well as daily check-ins with their respective athletic trainers.

More information about the university’s latest testing results can be found on Michigan State’s COVID-19 testing and reporting database.
