BREAKING: Javon Bess Transferring to Akron

Michigan State’s second transfer has just announced where he will be taking his talents next season.

Forward Javon Bess is reportedly transferring to Akron, and will sit out next year. He has two years of eligibility remaining.

Bess started the first 13 games of the season for MSU before seeing his minutes get slashed for the rest of the year. The sophomore averaged 2.9 points and 2.3 rebounds per game while shooting 43 percent from the field. In the first 13 games of the season, Bess put up 5.5 points and 4 rebounds per game and played at least 15 minutes in all but two of those games. For the remainder of the season, he only played for 15 or more minutes in two games.

With the unexpected emergence of redshirt freshman Kenny Goins, there was just no place for Tom Izzo to put the undersized forward. Bess’ jump shot was too inconsistent to play on the wing and his post game was no match for the bigger forwards in the Big Ten.

The Zips finished 26-9 last season and earned a trip to the postseason NIT, losing in the first round to Ohio State. If Bess can use his year off to improve his outside game, he could be a big factor for Akron.
