Throwback Thursday — Welcome to the Black Parade | My Chemical Romance

Throwback+Thursday+%E2%80%94+Welcome+to+the+Black+Parade+%7C+My+Chemical+Romance

The band My Chemical Romance was one of the most popular emo/punk rock/alternative bands of the early 2000s. They started in 2001 and rocked all the way until 2013, whenre they split up. Although Gerard Way, the lead singer of the group, has released some of his own music since then.

The song “Welcome to the Black Parade” was released on MRC’s 2006 album The Black Parade, which was undoubtedly the most unforgettable and spectacular album produced by them in my opinion.  Just last year the album celebrated its 10 year anniversary. The song starts out with a simple piano melody, then adds vocals, guitar and a strong snare drum beat. As the song progresses, the tempo picks up and the song switches from a ballad to more of a rock pace, with more guitar and drum solo. At the end of the song, they slow the melody down again, and bring back the snare drum beat until its fades off and the song ends. The snare drum gives the song an essence of a marching band which fits in perfectly with the title. The song has several very emotional meanings, but according to Songfacts.com lead singer Gerard Way explained “The concept of the album and the song is ‘the patient’ who dies of cancer at an early age and death comes in the form of your most powerful memory, for ‘the patient’ that memory was a parade he had went to with his father.” The song is also open to interpretation, so give it a listen and see what your ears pick up.
